Often, people do not start having symptoms of gastrointestinal (GI) cancers until the cancer is more advanced. However, like most cancers, GI cancers are most treatable when detected earlier. Knowing your health history, family history, and risk factors for developing GI cancer can help.

The High-Risk GI Clinic at UCBC/UHA works closely with patients who have underlying pre-cancerous conditions or genetic factors that put them at a higher risk for developing GI cancers — including colorectal, gastric, or pancreatic cancers.

Are You at an Increased Risk for GI Cancer?

Some factors that increase your risk:

  • Chronic Pancreatitis
  • Pancreatic Cysts
  • Fatty Liver Disease
  • Liver Cirrhosis
  • Indeterminate liver lesions
  • Precancerous GI polyps
  • Family History of GI diseases and cancer
  • Inherited cancer risk/gene mutation
  • Helicobacter Pylori/ulcers
