Dr. Nikolinakos, Medical Oncologist/Hematologist, Managing Partner, and Director of Research at UCBC shares his thoughts on the significance of Clinical Research in our fight against cancer and the future of our award-winning Clinical Research program:

The future of Clinical Research in Community Oncology holds tremendous potential, and UCBC is proud to be a part of the advancements made so far. This summer, we will be moving into our new state-of-the-art cancer center, bringing many services under one roof including Radiation Oncology and Theranostics. We have also expanded our service lines to better meet the needs of our patients and welcomed new imaging services, a comprehensive breast health program, primary care, gastroenterology, colorectal surgery, and surgical oncology. We look forward to broadening our Research Program across all these specialties so that our patients have access to clinical trials at all points of their treatment journey. This future integration will allow us to offer clinical trials that incorporate surgery, radiation, theranostics, and even diseases outside of the oncology realm.

Clinical Research is of paramount importance as it drives scientific progress, shapes treatment paradigms, improves patient outcomes, and paves the way for a future where cancer is better understood, preventable, and curable. Every treatment available today is a testament to the importance of Clinical Research. From personalized, targeted therapies that halt the growth of specific cancer cells to immunotherapies that harness the power of one’s immune system, we have witnessed remarkable advancements that were once considered impossible. The lives saved, the quality of life improved, and the hope restored are all a testament to the collective dedication, resilience, and unwavering commitment of patients, scientists, investigators, and research professionals. Clinical Research is not solely conducted to develop better treatments. It is essential to improve our understanding of the intricacies of cancer biology and to enhance our ability to detect and treat the disease at its earliest stages. It is about empowering patients with knowledge, ensuring access to cutting-edge therapies, and improving their overall well-being. UCBC is committed to being a leading contributor to the field of Clinical Research and the promise it holds for our patients.
